- In Conversation with WALTER MURCH

"I'm very excited to be part of another SuperMeet, especially in the present moment of great ferment, and in Boston where I have many family connections." - Walter Murch

This will be the FIRST public appearance by Oscar and BAFTA Award-winning editor Walter Murch since the launch of Final Cut Pro X. We look forward not only to hearing Walter's thoughts on Final Cut Pro X but more importantly we are truly excited to offer Boston SuperMeet attendees a rare chance to listen to and learn more from Walter on the craft of editing itself. - This is ONE session you can't afford to miss. Register today.

About Walter Murch (full IMDB Bio)
Walter Murch has been editing sound in Hollywood since starting on Francis Ford Coppola's film The Rain People (1969). He edited sound on American Graffiti (1973) and The Godfather: Part II (1974), won his first Academy Award nomination for The Conversation (1974), won his first Oscar for Apocalypse Now (1979), and won an unprecedented double Oscar for sound and film editing for his work on The English Patient (1996). Most recently he helped reconstruct Touch of Evil (1958) to Orson Welles' original notes, and edited The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999). Mr. Murch was, along with George Lucas and Francis Coppola, a founding member of northern California cinema. Mr. Murch has directed -- Return to Oz (1985) -- and longs to do so again, but as an editor and sound man he is one of the few universally acknowledged masters in his field. For his work on the film "Apocolypse Now", Walter coined the term "Sound Designer", and along with colleagues such as Ben Burtt, helped to elevate the art and impact of film sound to a new level.

Version 8.1 with support for Final Cut Pro X is here! And Alexis Van Hurkman will discuss how, in the last nine months, DaVinci Resolve from Blackmagic Design has changed his color correction practice. In the process he'll show off a few of his favorite Resolve workflow and color correction features in examples from projects he's worked on this last year, which includes the television pilot ‘Nuclear Family’ and the feature 'Cargo,' and give insight based on years of experience grading programs that have appeared on The History Channel, the BBC, and Discovery Channel networks.
About Alexis Van Hurkman
In Alex's words: "I divide my time working as a writer, director, and colorist. Based in Manhattan, I do color correction for a wide variety of broadcast programming, narrative and documentary features and shorts, spots, and experimental subjects. I’ve color-corrected programs that have aired on The History Channel, The Learning Channel, BBC Four, and WNET; features and shorts I’ve graded have played at the Telluride, Sundance, Tribeca, Hamptons, and Amsterdam film festivals, among many others; video art pieces I’ve worked on have been exhibited at the NYC Museum of Modern Art (MOMA), the Whitney Museum of American Art, and San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. - On the Road with SMOKE on Mac and ThunderBolt - Marc-André Ferguson, Autodesk
Marc-André Ferguson, the Smoke Industry Manager at Autodesk, will be onstage demonstrating the groundbreaking new workflow for SMOKE on Mac OSX using a laptop. That's right, a laptop. You have got to see this. Using the latest MacBook Pro and a Promise Technology Pegasus Thunderbolt RAID, users can now bring the power of Smoke on the road. A long-time Final Cut Pro editor, Marc-André will demonstrate how accessible Autodesk Smoke really is, how to blast past the apparent steep learning curve it has and hit the ground running.

"During my editing career, I used Avid and FCP with a healthy dose of After Effects to get to where I wanted with the projects I worked on. Like many others doing finishing work, I aspired to use Smoke, which was out of my reach at the time. Now that Smoke is available on the Mac platform, it's accessible to a lot more people, even to those who don't build complex effects for Hollywood blockbusters and big budget advertisemenst."

About Marc-André Ferguson
